This is one of a number of images of Seattle street regrade projects. Hills near downtown Seattle were washed away or dug out to level the streets in hopes of increasing property values. Existing homes and businesses were forced to move, not always agreeably.
This copy of the image was made by M.L. Zercher Book and Stationery Co. in Topeka, Kansas. We do not know if the image was reprinted by permission or whether it was pirated.
